Reuters collects certain Personal and Anonymous Information (both as defined below) from you, as either a Visitor and User, for our internal business, product development and marketing purposes, such as studying the demographics and interests of Visitors, or analyzing what type of research we provide is accessed most often, so that we can improve the content, quality and operation of our Services. Other than as described in this Privacy Policy (and related, published guidelines, if any), and unless you give us your prior consent, we do not share, rent, or sell any of your information to any third parties, except as necessary to comply with laws, court orders, emergencies or other legal proceedings (as further described below).
|
The types of personally identifiable information that Reuters collects from you depends on your usage of our Sites and Services, and whether you are a Visitor or User.
|
For Visitors, the Personal Information we collect consists of: (a) personally identifiable information, such as your name and email address; (b) statistical information, such as the type of firm you work for, your profession and how you heard about us; and (c) "Visitor Preferences," such as the particular Reuters Service that you are interested in learning more about and the kind of research you are looking for.
When visiting the Corporate Site, you will be able to use various online forms to request more information about or sign up for a free trial period to one of Reuters's Services. We will ask you to provide us with certain Personal Information so that we can respond to your request and understand your interests in our products and services, including assist in your decision as to which best suits your needs. For example, if you wish to request a thirty-day trial period to Reuters Net by filling out the online form, we would collect the following Personal Information: your name, job title, phone number, email address, company name and address, type of firm and department you are with, assets managed, and how you heard about us.
In addition, if you provide your email address as described above, we may send you periodic electronic newsletters about Reuters's Services, related events, or messages from our sponsors. You will, however, always have the opportunity of un-subscribing by following the instructions at the end of such newsletters.
|
If you are Visitor to our Corporate Site and have not subscribed to a Service, please feel free to skip this Section since it only applies to Users of the Product Site.
For Users, the Personal Information we collect consists of: (a) personally identifiable information, including "Registration Information" (as defined below) and Personal Information you disclosed to us as a Visitor (if any); (b) statistical information, such as the type of firm you work for, the industries or companies you research the most, and your profession; (c) "User Preferences" (as defined below); and (d) "Usage Data" (as defined below).
Unless otherwise mutually agreed to by your employer and Reuters, when you and/or your employer subscribes to one of our Services, we collect the following "Registration Information" from you and/or your employer: your name, business phone number, job function, investment style (e.g. growth, hedge fund, etc.), the company ( including type of firm, department and approximate amount of assets managed by the firm) for which you work, your current working location (including mailing address), and email address. We use the Registration Information to (i) process your registration as a User of that Service; (ii) issue you a User ID and password; (iii) manage your and your employer's subscription and account (which includes sharing certain Registration Information with Contributors, as defined and specifically described in Section 12 below); and (iv) convert certain Personal Information into Anonymous Information. If you submitted Personal Information to us prior to becoming a User, we might use that information to contact you for feedback on the Service purchased and related issues. And, if you provide your email address as described above, we may send you periodic electronic newsletters about Reuters's Services, related events or messages from our sponsors. You will, however, always have the opportunity of un-subscribing by following the instructions at the end of such newsletters.
In addition, the Service you access will provide certain customizable pages ("User Tools") within the Product Site so that you can choose settings ("User Preferences") in those User Tools to personalize your use of the Service. The various functionalities of the User Tools available to you through the Service are explained in "The ReutersNET Help & Reference Guide" ("Product Guide"), which is posted on the Product Site. For example, you can set up search parameters in certain User Tools so that each time you log in, the Product Site would display only research reports about a particular company or industry for a particular time period. Another example of a User Tool is the "Email Alerts," which allows you to receive emails notifying you of new research that matches your User Preferences as selected in the User Tool called "Profile." Further, each time you access the Product Site, Reuters collects Personal Information about your use of the Service ("Usage Data"), including the names of the reports you downloaded (i.e. the reports purchased) and the date and time of each such download.
|
Whether you are a Visitor or User, we collect Personal Information (e.g. your name, email address, phone number, business address and other information for these purposes) from you if you contact us with questions or comments about the Privacy Policy, the Service purchased, Reuters products and services in general, or requests for technical support, which may include addressing issues related to our server and Sites. We keep all such Personal Information confidential, and use it to respond (unless you specifically request otherwise) to such questions, comments, requests or technical necessities.
|
"Anonymous Information" means information that cannot be traced back specifically to you as an individual. In general, the Anonymous Information we use comes from collecting data from you while you visit the Corporate Site, access the Product Site, and open an electronic newsletter (as described above), and from converting Personal Information into Anonymous Information. All such Anonymous Information is then compiled on an aggregated basis (i.e. categorized into groups or types of information). For example, we might compile all the Visitor Preferences to analyze the total number of requests for information on Reuters Estimates submitted last year and compare them to the total requests from this year.
Anonymous Information is not disclosed in connection with your Personal Information, and is used by us for the operation and administration of the Sites, marketing purposes, enhancements to our Services, and diagnosing problems with our server, Services and software.
More specifically, each time you visit the Corporate Site or access the Product Site, our web server receives the following Anonymous Information from your web browser: the type of browser and operating system you are using; the web site address of the previous site you visited; the web site address of the site you go to when leaving ours; the date and time of your visit; your server's IP address (the Internet protocol address, a number which is unique to the computer and servers); and the address of the web pages you visited or accessed on our Sites. If you receive our electronic newsletters, your email software lets us know whether the email should be sent to you in HTML or text format, and whether you accessed the links (if any) provided within that email. All such Anonymous Information enables Reuters to understand how our Sites are visited or accessed and navigated, including the number of hits, the frequency of visits or access, and the duration of visits or access to each web page on the Sites, but all such tracking does not personally identify any individuals.
In addition, Reuters may use "cookie" technology on the Sites. A "cookie" is a small file that is sent from our web server and stored on your computer hard drive while you are visiting our Site, and helps identify your browser when you return to our Site. On the Corporate Site, Reuters uses cookies for certain promotional or marketing purposes. For example, Reuters might create a pop-up window announcing the release of a new product, so that the next time you visited our Corporate Site, the cookie would send us a signal to not display the pop-up window again. On the Product Site, Reuters uses "session cookies," which means the cookies that stored on your computer hard drive (as described above) are temporary and disappear when you leave the Product Site (i.e. session cookies exist only while you are logged on during that session).
Cookies cannot identify you personally, and if you do not wish to receive cookies, it is likely that you can disable their use by altering the security settings on your web browser. Please note, however, that this might impede your ability to use parts of our Corporate Site, and significantly limit your ability to customize your experience of the Services (i.e. you may not be able to take advantage of the User Tools).
|
For Visitors and Users in regards to Personal Information, Reuters does not share Personal Information collected through the applicable site with any third party, except as described herein, or when outsourced to subcontractors or for other lawful purposes. If we use subcontractors, Reuters makes commercially reasonable efforts to require all subcontractors to use the Personal Information solely to fulfill the specific job function, and keep such information confidential. Additionally, Reuters may use Personal Information to investigate security breaches or cooperate with law enforcement or governmental agencies, courts or external advisors when permitted or required by law.
For Visitors and Users in regards to Anonymous Information, Reuters may use Anonymous Information to provide clients, partners, subcontractors, Contributors or other business associates with statistical information, such as the total number of Visitors requesting more information about Reuters Fundamentals, the total number of Visitors or Users opening a Reuters electronic newsletter, the total number of Users downloading particular reports, the average number of Users in certain geographic regions, or the type of Visitors receiving a free trial to MultexNet.
For Users, Reuters shares a User's Personal Information with his/her employer (i.e. Reuters's client company that purchased the Service to which a User has access), including Usage Data so that the User's employer can view the following Personal Information in an online report from Reuters: the User's name, the name (and cost) of each report downloaded by that User, and the date and time that each such report was downloaded by that User. Reuters also shares a User's Personal Information with certain third party research providers ("Contributors") who are authorized to receive such Personal Information in accordance with Reuters's "Entitlement System." This Entitlement System, which pertains to content provided through the Service, is further explained in the Product Guide, and its integration into the Service, as provided to a User, was authorized and agreed to by such User's employer in advance. Pursuant to such agreed upon terms, a Contributor can view the following Personal Information in an online report from Reuters: the User's name, the name (and cost) of each report downloaded by that User, and the date and time that each such report was downloaded by that User. The Contributor may also have access to that User's email address, work address and phone number, if any such information is provided by the User and/or his/her employer. Contributors may then use this Usage Data to directly contact Users about providing additional research for the Users and related business issues. In addition, through the User Tools, you may authorize a third party to share certain of your User Preferences, but you must give your consent directly and specifically to that third party. (See description of the User Tool, "Profile," in the Product Guide.)

If we reference, recommend or provide links to third party web sites, we do not control and therefore are not responsible for such third party web sites and their content, information or privacy policies. Please take the time to review the privacy policies and any other information practices posted on such third party web sites.
|
As a Visitor, if any of your Personal Information provided by you
changes, please let us know the correct information by
emailing us all such details at
Reuters.privacy@reuters.com.
As a User, you may, at any time, change any information you provide in any of the User Tools by accessing the applicable User Tool and changing the desired User Preference, all within the Product Site. If, however, any of your Personal Information provided by your employer changes, please contact your employer's authorized personnel with the correct information since Reuters is not authorized to directly make such changes.
|

All Visitors and Users must be over 18 to visit the Corporate Site and/or access the Product Site, and participate in any events or communications through our Sites. We, however, still consider it extremely important to address the issue of safeguarding children's Personal Information over the Internet. Thus, if Reuters obtains actual knowledge that any information collected through the Sites is provided by anyone under 18, we will inform that child that he/she cannot visit or access the applicable Site or use our Services, and delete that child's information from our records.
|
Reuters has security measures in place to help protect the loss, misuse and alteration of your Personal Information under our reasonable control; however, data transmission over the Internet is not 100% secure, and thus, we cannot guarantee that such transmissions to Reuters is 100% secure.

You also acknowledge that you are completely responsible for any information you send via email or any other form of communication through our Sites. Further, if you receive any emails or other communications, you are responsible for using all reasonable efforts to screen un-wanted material, and immediately reporting to Reuters (via our contact information as provided in this Privacy Policy) any illegal or inappropriate communication. If Reuters directly learns of any inappropriate information being disseminated through our Sites, Reuters will investigate such matter and resolve such issue, as determined solely by Reuters.
